Congressional Institute to Sponsor 2019 Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Institute is pleased to sponsor the 2019 Congressional Art Competition. This is a wonderful opportunity for high school students across the United States to compete for a chance to have their artwork displayed at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC, for a year. The students whose artwork is to be displayed will also be invited to a reception in Washington in June.

This will be the 38th Annual Congressional Art Competition. Representative French Hill (R-Arkansas) and Representative Tom O’Halleran (D-Arizona) will serve as co-chairs for 2019.

Most Members of the House of Representatives choose to participate in the Congressional Art Competition. In fact, last year we had our highest participation rate with 428 out of 441 offices taking part. Students interested in entering the competition should contact the office of their U.S. Representative. If students, parents and guardians, or teachers are unsure of how to contact their Member of Congress, the U.S. House has a “Find Your Representative” search tool on its website.

Each participating Member of Congress organizes the competition differently, with different due dates and entry instructions.

Entrants must follow the instructions from their representative’s office. Artwork is not to be submitted to the Congressional Institute. The general competition rules for students and teachers may be downloaded here. Members of Congress may have requirements for his or her district in addition to the general rules and regulations. Be sure to check with your Representative’s office to see if additional rules apply.

In May, the Congressional Institute will mail the first-place winners’ invitations to the reception, which will take place at the end of June. The date will be announced later.
